WANA (Mar 09) – As the world witnesses the ongoing killing of Syrian civilians by the rebel forces ruling Damascus, Iran has once again reminded the backers of Syria’s interim rulers of their responsibilities.

“The responsibility of Syria’s new rulers to safeguard the security and lives of all groups and segments of the Syrian people”—this was the message delivered by Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi to his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, in Jeddah.

Araghchi, who also pointed to Turkey’s direct involvement—along with several other countries—in Syria’s developments, stated that the only beneficiaries of Syria’s insecurity and instability are the Israeli regime and extremist terrorist groups.

Since Thursday, Syria’s coastal cities have been witnessing escalating violence, insecurity, and widespread civilian killings by the ruling rebels, leading to mass displacement. Some media outlets have reported the death toll to be as high as 4,000.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei also expressed concern over the situation in Syria, emphasizing the interim government’s responsibility for ensuring the security of Syrian citizens.

Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government, Iran has repeatedly warned that insecurity, violence, and the killing of innocent Syrians would only fuel regional instability and serve Israel’s interests. Iranian officials have consistently stressed the need to form an inclusive government representing all segments of Syrian society.
